GURNEE TOURISTS SURPRISE FRIEND,NOW OF FLORIDADr. H. 0. B. Young and Family Loud in Their Praise of the Climate.1A letter received by the Independent from H. D. Hughes, who is now living at St. Andrew, Fla., tells of the visit to his bungalow there of several Gurnee residents whom he knows intimately. These people were making the trip about in automobile. He tells how they were entertained and invites other residents to visit him and his family.Hs letter follows:St. Andrews, Fla., Dec. 9, 1922. Editor Dally Sun: We were very j,much surprised to have Dr. and Mrs.H. O. B. Young of Gurnee, 111, and also Vaness Young and wife stop in front of our bungalow the other day. Dr. Young driving his new Dodge and Vaness in his Ford straight from Gurnee. We gave them the best welcome that we were capable of and got them safely in camp in a grove back of our house, where they remained until the next morning, and then we took them out to see the town and the beautiful little city of St. Andrews so captivated them that they rented a nice furnished cottage in the west end of town, where they say they are perfectly satisfied to stay. This is the best place that I have seen in Florida was the doctor’s satisfied remark. They arrived |! on Wednesday the 6th and on Friday j ' Mrs. H. H. Sponnenberg and grand-j daughter, Grace Sponnenberg, also of i our home town, arrived and are nice-I ly located in Mrs. Lydia Ware’s fur-I nished rooms and we were very glad to have them to dinner with us the next day after their arrival. While here the Young's drove up and we all got into the two cars and drove over to Lynn Haven, to the Cherokee orange grove, where each of them bought a hundred Satsuma oranges from the trees at $1.60 per hundred. And very fine grape fruit at fifty cents a dozen right from the loaded trees. Yesterday Charley Maxon, from Farina, 111., landed twenty fine speckled trtnit from the ice plant dock in front of our house, and a few days before got twenty-seven black bass without stopping. And while he may lead the list of rod and reel” men a little, there are plenty more very close seconds. We are expecting to see other Gurnee people before they freeze up back there. An elderly couple that went away from here 24 years ago came back from N. Y. a few weeks ago, and have now bought a home in which to pass the remainder of their days in the block besideBoth the Young’s and Sponnen-•erg’8 are anxiously awaiting till theaily Sun gets here to give them the ews from home. The weather is as ear perfect as it ever gets any time r anywhere. They are each located n water front homes and are enjoy-□g the scenery around one of the oost beoutiful bays anywhere In the vorld. The whole gang surprised ’larence Shepard at Lynnhaven, and le also is from the good town of Gur-lee. Plenty room for more.H. D. HUGHES.
