Beautiful Tribute to Faithful Colored Man.A peculiar mark of respect was paid to Guilford Christmas, col-jored, formerly of Warren county, who died at Fayetteville a few days ago, by the white people of that city. Besides the pall-bear- j ers of his own race, seventeen ' prominent white citizens of Fayettevilleacted as honorary pall-j bearers at his funeral. Many beautiful floral designs were sent by the white people of that city. Christmas served his master. Col W. J. Green, most faithfully while he lived in Warren county and moved with the family to Fayetteville. In 1870 he was elected as assistant door-keeper in the House of Representatives 1 of the first Democratic Legisla-ture in North Carolina after the day of reconstruction. He was stationed at the door and was as I polite as an old-time darkey, raised in the South before the war, knew how to be. He commanded the respect of the entire ! Legislature and public men of that day. It is said that his devotion to Col. Green, with whom he went as a body-servant during the war, was very touching.
