I 21. MOT.HEWS OF THE WOHDER DISTRICT•We hare enough or* In sight on our Mg-foot tonl alone to boom tho town of | Wonder and «uur» the future of the Wonder district.—Charles A. HlftMi, president of the Navad* Wonder Mining companyMr. Hlgbee arrived In Wonder laat Saturday afternoon, and. after spending the night at the home of J. B. Daniel, general manager of the company, left for San Francisco Sunday morning. He mad* the above statement Just before departure, after a long talk with Mr. Daniel and an examlatlon of the work In the mine at the 508-foot level. He expressed hi me* If aa much pleased witS the development of the property thus far. and. In the conversation with Mr. Dsntel. outlined the plan* for the future.A 50-h.p. holat will be Installed for the sinking to the water level, estimated to be at a depth of about a thousand feet, which work, as already announced, will be started with the resumption of general activity on the property. The hoist will be operated by steam, because of the greater rapidity of thla power, and a special boiler has been ordered In Pittsburg. This boiler will be adapted to either gasoline, distillate, or crude petroleum as fuel. A dealer In crude petroleum Is expected In Wonder within a abort time to go over with Mr. Daniel the matter of ualng this commodity aa fuel. The boiler will be of the locomotive type, with the special fuel appliance added. Because there Is no brick for holding heat In thla section, the boiler will be encased In asbestos. Construction of the boiler and the filling of the'order for the hoist will take several weeks, and It la estimated that thla machinery will not be on the ground until about two months after It la ready for shipment. Mr. Daniel says that there will probably be no general work done on the Nevada Wonder again until about March 1st.At this time. In addition to the continued sinking, the work In the drifts and crosscuts at the 600-foot level will be resumed, with a view to thoroughly prospecting the seven ledges which have been cut In the surface workings. Only one of these ledges, the Badger, has so far been cut Thla ledge shows an unusually large body of ore at this level, and Indicates an Important Improvement In the formation. The latter is not broken by Intrusions of country rock and cross Assures at this depth, as It Is near the surface. This uniformity Is taken to mean that not only on this property, but In the Wonder district generally, the veins will be found to be more regular and even In direct ratio to the depth attained. The Nevada Wonder vein, which proved to be the richest near the surface on the Nevada- Wonder property, has not yet been cut at the 500-foot level, but Mr. Daniel believes that It In a very short distance from the head of the crosscut from the Badger ledge.Fifty feet of the tunnel which Is being driven on the Gold Bar property has been completed, and work on the regaining Afty feet called for In the contract Is being pushed with vigor. The tunnel Is being run on a promising ledge. No assays have been made recently, but the quarts is of excellent quality. The showing on the ground, together with Its location close to the Vulture. Jack Pot. Queens and other Important properties, makes the outlook for the Gold Bar highly favorable.A force of men has been engaged this week on the June Wonder, cleaning out the shaft, and. In general, putting the property In good order for the contractor. who will sink the shaft another hundred feet when the contract Is let by W. W. Kirby. The 25-horse power hoist, installed under contract by John Hos-tettler. Is now working perfectly, and the skip has been operated to full capacity during the week. The ore In the bottom of the shaft, already down 200 feet, looks better than at any past stage. In the development work. Much of the rock will run better than a hundred ounces of silver to the ton. and. In addition to this carries a heavy percentage of both copper and galena. The ledge varies in width from ten to eighteen feet, and the hanging wall is perhaps the most perfect yet uncovered In the district.Contracts for work on the Queen group have at last been awarded Messrs. Parhm and Hart were the successful bidders for the 50-foot shaft which will be sunk on Queen claim No. 2. close to the end line of Queen Nq. 1. The shaft will be 5xC In the clear, and will be sunk about 40 feet on the pitch of a strong ledge showing the characteristic quarts of the Wonder dlBtrlct. The tunnel work has been awarded to A. J. Layman, who will drive the tunnel 4x8 In the clear, 50 feet, to locate the source of a large quantity of rich float on the ridge above.—Wonder News.
