CADIaA. Leon McCormack, who has been vis iting his father for the last two weeks received a telephone message from the manager of the telephone company to report for duty at South Bend. He left Newcastle Monday on the poon train. Etha Carter will move into this new dwelling Wedneday. Our people who had horses and sleighs improved the time while the snow lasted. We have a good many fine cutters in this part of the country. The Friends church will give their Christmas entertainment Christmas night. The Christmas church exer cises will be on Christmas eve. The M. E. Sunday school exercises will be on Sunday working. On last Sunday morning about nine o'clock our people were greatly shocked to hear that the toe brick residence of Mre. Benjamin Allen had taken fire in some way and was totally destroyed. It was eased to be the finest farm resi dence in Henry county. We understand by good authority that our friend, Joseph Mogle, will be a candidate subject to the Republican nomination for sheriff. All we have to say Mr. Mogis is a good boy and a re lable Republican. Rev. Goodykeuitz preached a very able sermon on the validity of the Bible to a large and attentive congreg eanian at the Christian church Sunday night. Clarence Morse, son of Mr. D. A. Pickering, who is now in the I’hSlip-~ pines fighting to uphold and sustain the American flag, sent to his mother a Manila paper called the New Orient of Nov. 4th, published every Saturday, Subscription price 85 in the island, foreign 36 per year. It is the first time io my life that L ever was permitted to read # paper published eleven thous and miles away from home. I tls a ten page paper containing five columns of reading matter on each page and is a staunch supporter of Uncle Sam. The person who took a pair of writ tens laying near the store in M. A. Pickering's store one day last week is known and had better quietly return them or there will be danger of the grand jury investigating the thefe. Mr. and Mr. and Mr., Johu Callahan (rom Keightetuwo were here a few days that weeks visiting Wm. H. baker. A Sunday achool conference comi ved of all the Sunday schools of a prison township was held at the Christian church last Sunday after noon. Seven Sabbath schools of the township were in attendance. A well prepared program had been prepared and the exercises proved to be both in teresting and instructive. Quer friend, Ty. A. Phelps was present, as president of the conference and deserves the tighest praise for his zeal and efficien cy in conducting the various exercises. Mrs. Oris Keese as secretary should certainly be commended for the accur acy she was displayed in keeping a correct record of the proceeding con ferences.
