The newest town name is Wodin, given to the new railroad town east of Titonka, first named Bingham. The poatoffiee department objected to Bingham for the same reason that had previously influenced the rejection of Ripley, to save confusion and mail-mixing by the clerks and postmasters. Whoever hunted up the new name evidently went into competition with Titonka for a suggestion of old times, and not unlikely as a sop to draw Skandinavi-an trade, as Wodin was the chief god of Skandinavian mythology. The things that Wodin is said to have done are suggestive of the business activity and enterprise which it is doubtless hoped will characterize the new town. While in his youth, as youth may be counted with gods like Wodin, he had trouble with Ymir or Chaos and slew him, Not being quite willing to waste the raw material Wodin utilized the body,- if the story is worth anything, in the creation of the world.
