Supervisors OK Helicopter BuySheriff A1 Jalaty will get a replacement helicopter for the craft that crashed in the Santa Clara Kiver bed Oct 25. killing veteran pilot and deputy Tom Collins The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to permit Jalaty to use the $50,000 in replacement funds from the insurance policy that covered the craft to purchase a helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Frank Jewett of Ventura said he supported training another pilot to help operate the county's otherhelicopter, but said he op posed replacing the lost machine“1 believe so strongly in this program that I’m shorting other things,” Jalaty saidOfficials have talked in recent weeks about a potentialdeficit in the Sheriff’s Department budget, but Jalaty predicted Tuesday there would be no deficit next June JO.“We will meet our budget this year.” he said We will be in the grey area or the black — barring unforeseen circumstances ”
