RR Signal Money OkdThe California Public Utilities Commission has allocated San Bernardino County $11,152, Montclair $4,375, and Upland $898 to assist in paying forimproved protection at four grade crossings of highways with the track of the Santa Pe railroad.Upland's allocation, and part erf San Bernardino's allocation, is for the 1968 installation of two flashing light signals at Benson Avenue. Previous protection had been by two crossing signs.Montclair’s allocation is for replacing two flashing light signals with automatic crossing gates supplemented by four flashing light signals at Central Avenue. The installation was made in November. 1968.The resit of the county’s allocation is for work at the Cherry Avenue crossing east of Etiwanda Avenue and at First Street near Oro Grande. The Cherry Avenue protection was installed in July, 1968, and the work at First Street is not yetcompleted,In each case, the PUC allocation pays half the city’s or the county’s share of the installation cost. The railroad, andin some instances other entities, also shared in the cost.The PUC allocation comes from the crossing protection fund established by the legislature to aid cities and counties in providing improved protection at hazardous highway-railroad crossings.
