A group of workmen are busy these days tearing up the railroad tracks between Roland and Story City. The M. St. L. Railroad company has de cided to discontinue train service to Story City. The rails will be left for a short distance west of Roland and trains will run between Marshalltown and Roland. A Diesel engine is now being used on this branch of the M. St. L., and about two or three trains a week are run to haul freight each way. The company also uses a semi-trailer for hauling local freight, The M. St. L., was built in 1861 from Marshalltown to Story City, a distance of about 40 miles. In olden days we had four trains each day, a passenger train from Story City in the morning, returning in the evening, and a mixed passenger and freight going west in the forenoon and re turning east in the afternoon. Later we had one train each way a day, and now one train two or three times a week. The Chicago Northwestern has, built a spur connecting the C. N. Ww. with the tracks of the M. St. L. in Story City to accomodate former pa trons of the M. St. L. in Story City. Don’t forget to tell us about that dinner party you're having on Sunday.
