Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1917.THE BACA FLOAT GRANTEfforts Toward Compromise Between the Successful Claimants and theSettlers.Sunday the Calabasas country was visited by Mr. C. C. Davis, the chief of the successful claimants on the south half of the grant, who made a number of calls among the settlers.It is reported that the gentleman made an offer that thegrant claimants will lease their lands to the settlers at a nomiairental for one year with the privilege of buying at the end of 1jhat time; the lease to carry a clause or provision that thesettlers will abandon furtherlegal proceedings. From a conversation had by “The Oasis” with one of the settlers the offer is not considered reasonable. A meeting is called at Calabasasnext Sunday, at which the offer made by Mr Davis will be considered, and provision proposed for action thereon.The successful claimants on the north side of the grant (J. D. Bouldin et al.,) have arranged a settlement with some of the settlers as stated in these columns a week or more ago. Those who they settled with were Thos. D. Casanega, Kams Brothers, Raymond Burrel and Manuel King* Whether they will make any arrangement with any of the rest is unknown.• It is reported that the Bouldin claimants will work the mines in the Salero country that are within the lines of the granty and to that end will erect a con-centrator. The properties meant are what are known as the Alto group of mines, and they are well deveolped by several tunnels, with several shafts^ exposing large bodies of ore, low grade, but susceptible of profitable concentration. Ifthat is done erection of a con-• •centration plant will be necessary, and such an investment in the near future is among thepossibilities.The north line of the grant cuts through the Alto properties, leaving on the outside several good claims that have been developed by shafts, showing good ore bodies of the samegrade .as that opened by the.tunnels. Should the grant owners, erect a concentratorplant it would crush customores no doubt; in which eventthe owners of the outside mines 'Will work and have their ores concentrated at the mill. Those properties are owned by thesame people who own the Mowry mines* Erection of such a plantand operation of the mines willput new life into the Salero country*In the vicinity there are other good properties with more or less development and good ore bodies, to which the grant owners will turn attention no doubt. They are the Trenton, the Salero and the Bland mines. All these have well developed ore
