Prominent Business Man Dies Morning, as The Result of In juries Sustained Sunday, the best known men in this coun ty, and the pioneer of the automo bile business in the county, died at the Cambridge-Maryland Hosi tal this morning, at a quarter to five o’clock, as the result of the injuries which he sustained on the State road last Sunday afternoon, when he was thrown from his mo torcycle, near the lane leading to the home of Mr. Jas. P. Handley. When taken to the Hospital,it was found that Mr. Wright, as the result of his collision with the car of Mr. Daniel Webster, had sus tained injuries to his left leg, which might necessitate its ampu tation, but after carefully examin ing the injuries, the physicians de cided to await the arrival of a specialist, who was immediately telephoned for, and who arrived Monday morning. As the result of a second careful examination and diagnosis of the case, it was be lieved that the injured member could be saved, and the broken bones were wired together, with the result that the patient's condi tion was as favorable as could be expected, until yesterday morning, when gangrene unexpectedly de veloped. So rapid was the develop ment of this complication that a hurried conference of the staff of the Hospital was held, and it was deemed absolutely imperative to amputate the injured member, and this was done, the entire leg, and a portion of the thigh, being cut off. So rapid, however, had been the spread of the gangrene, that even this did not avail to save the pa tient’s life, and he gradually be came weaker, until the end came this morning. Mr. Wright was the son of Mrs. Edith and the late Rigby T. Wright. He was forty-two years of age last July, having been born the 26th of July, 1871. After completing the course at the public schools, Mr. Wright attended both Cornell and Lehigh Universities, at both of which he took the engineering course. With a decided mechanical turn of mind, Mr. Wright quite naturally took to a business in which ih was an opportunity to develop this turn. He engaged at first in the bicycle business, in the year 1893, bicycles at that time having just en tered upon the earlier stages for popular favor. He was an ardent bicyclist, and with William G. Compte and W. Wallace Phelps, won many championship races for the Eastern Shore. Later, when a automobile became the logical cessor of the bicycle, Mr. Wit was one of the first to engage in the business, and was still canize in it at the time of his death. Was considered the most fur driver in Cambridge, Many was thought to be the same: ‘im te Gets. Bae tomobiles from start to finish; ;there was no mechanical part of them which he did not understand, not only in theory, but in the practical operation, and it was this superior knowledge that enabled him to drive so successfully. Besides his automobile business, Mr. Wright was engaged in other business operations, including build ing, farming, etc. One of his most recent achievements had been the clearing off of a portion of Water street, his idea being, even tually, to remove all of the old buildings from the street and make it an ideal residence section. He was also very keenly interested in clearing up a tract of what is known as “cut over” land, which he had purchased from Messrs. W. S. Hoddinott and S. S. Andrews. He had expected to take up the stumps with an engine, and by the use of dynamite, and then intended plow ing with an engine next spring. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, who was Miss Lillian Whit more, daughter of Rev. and Mrs.A. A. Whitmore, to whom he was mar ried in 1902, and a little son, Hu bert, Jr., about three years old. He is also survived by his mother, to whom he was devoted, and a sister, Mrs. Levin S. Dail. The funeral services will be held from his late home, on Wil liam street, tomorrow (Friday) af ternoon, at three o’clock. Inter ment will be in the Cambridge Cemetery. Mr. Hubert H. Wright, one o
