FOR, THE FORT WAYNE TIMES.The Rights of Women.Having1 had a conversation on the above sub-a jecl with the lady who wishes to lot the commu-- , nity know what barbarous young men there are 3 | in existence, at the present day, I deem it but ^ ' proper to state—with all due deference—that 3 she has misconstrued my observations. It is * ! consummate folly to think there are any young j! men who would permit tho brightest ornaments lt;of society to be reduced to vassalage and slavery, t On the contrary, they would have them free from ] | all menial services; unentangled with the intricacies of political government, and shielded from its contaminating influence ; well educated ; and fully qualified for adorning society, and rendering their homes elysian places of rest for brothers and fathers. And, instead of “ assigning to woman certain prescribed limits,” they cordially give to thorn all tho privileges applicable to their sex. Each one is, therefore, invested with the grand prerogatives of umpire of tho domestic duties, and Queen of home. Yet there are a fow who are, as yet, inadequate to the suitablo Derformanee of thoso duties, who incongruously seek others not adapted to their natures, and totally incompatible with tho spirit of progress and civilization. It is certainly strange that young ladies should desire to become so conspicuous. It appears as though they wore anxious to transcend their refined and enobling calling, and arrogate to themselves disgracerul rights.Perhaps it would have been more laudable for the lovely and accomplished Miss Eliza, if she had taken some of the salutary advice that was given gratis, “to pause and reflect” before penningher zealous vindication of women’s rights. Nearly all agree that they are now in tho full enjoyment of all their legitimate rights ; and those she is so ardently striving to obtain aro merely tho shadows of Utopian visions, or tho imaginations of idle dreams. It is fortunate for tho community in general, that there aro so fow loqueeious ladies who favor change and revolution ; who experience such exquisite delight in public strife and commotion ; and who seek that instead of tho quiet and tranquility of the social circle.Fort Wayne, Dec. 12, 1851.
