Sam Greenberg, commu nity leader and business man, has withdrawn from the special State Senate election in the 22nd Dis trict by declining to file his nomination petition. Greenberg and his wife have been leaders in Val ley Democratic circles for many years. Greenberg's wife Helen, is cochairman of the Democratic State Central Committee in the 22nd District and is a member of the los Angeles County Democratic Central Com mittee. Backs High Principles In explaining the rea sons her husband's withdrawal, Mrs. Green berg said. “Although I be lieve Sam is the best qual ified man to carry on the work of former State Sen. Tom Carrell, he has de cided not to run.’ He reached his decision be cause of the ethical com promises which would be necessary to overcome the self appointed king makers who are attempt ing to gain control of this legislative seat. “While my husband's campaign would be well financed, we believe that the unreasonably high cost of a winning cam paign is far beyond what is good for our democratic system of government. Secondly, the type of po litical mud slinging which will inevitably result from this campaign is a form of immorality in itself. “It is unfair to the people who support Sam, for him to enter this race unless he is willing to do what is necessary to win. He has lived with high po litical standards and will not change now,” Mrs. Greenberg said. Allegiance Is Assured ‘This decision does not effect my dedication to the principles of the Democratic Party or my continuing work in behalf af deserving Democratic candidates, [ expect to be active in the future as I have in the past. [I wish to commend Assemblyman Bob Moretti for the fine way he has conducted himself in this entire spe cial election period,” she states.
