Jr.AN OPEN LETTER TO BOBBY RUSH AND THE BLACK PANTHER PARTYDear Brother Rush:WHEN YOU appeared before the Black Cdngressmen at Malcolm X College when they were investigating the assassination of Chairman Fred, you stated. “The only Black elected Official we can trust is Sammy Rayner.”Am aware of my friendship with you and believe I am your friend Thus this letter - from a friend to a friend -- a brother to a brotherTHE COOK COUNTY Grand Jury has been formed to investigate what happened at 2337 West Monroe Street on December 4,1969 Bobby. I sincerely believe, in view of the fact Fred Hampton was assassinated over a year ago, this maybe the last chance for the truth to be known. We should “sieze the time and allow the seven survivors to tell the true storvI know Attorneys Howard T Savage and Ellis Reed They are men who have been involved in the struggle and I have the utmost confidence in their honesty and integrity. Sincerely. I do not believe that they would be a party to a “Whitewash.I BELIEVE 1 understand the reasoning behind the Party’sreluctance to be a part of any judicial proceeding, with reference to what occurred in the apartment that early morning. The feeling that justice would not be served is prevalent throughout the entire Black Community But when will we tell the story? Soon the facts will become fuzzy and witnesses will become victims of contradiction Also, the fickle public will soon forget and their support will not be forthcoming in any endeavors of the party, as long as there is any doubt about the truthThe States Attorney, at this very moment, is on the run because of unethical acts he committed shortly after that infamous 4th of December. Do not let this opportunity slip away --“Sieze the TimeTHERE IS no way to measure if my statements against the States’ Attorney and or my involvement with the Party helped or hurt my position in the March 17th Primary. One thing is certain, the assistance given to me by the Party was sheer -tokenism However, my feeling for the struggle supercedes all of the mistakes any of us have made in the pastJust as I did all I could when you came to me in Novem her. 1968 with an unsigned lease, and just as I have done all I could possibly do to keep the memory of Chairman Fred alive. I stand ready to support the Black Panther Party at this time of crisis.LET US cooperate with the Cook County Grand Jurv The Black Panther Party is the vanguard. Power to the f’eopie |lt; Bobby. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLESincerely your brother,Sammv Ravner
