SULLIVAN COUNTY BALL PLAY ER TURNS DEAF EAR TO FEDERAL LEAGUE. The past few weeks the new Fed eral league has been attempting to sign up star ball players of both the American and National leagues, and in some cases have been successful to a marked degree. At this time it would appear as though next sim mer would witness a baseball war like unto the days of the Brother hood back yonder in 1891. The Federal magnates are not only offer ing larger salaries, but in the case of some of the big stars have agreed to deposit their salaries for two or three years in the bank.. So far the old leaguers have given no indication of the policy they ex pect to pursue in fighting the out laws and nothing will be known un til their annual meetings in January if then. With a war chest of $4,000, 000, the magnates of the American and National leagues at first refused to look upon the new league as a rival, but the raid being made upon the players in the big leagues has made them sit up and take notice. For several weeks Manager Bill Phillips of the Indianapolis Federal league has been endeavoring to sign up Catcher Harry Glenn of Bhel burn, but Husky turned a deaf ear to his offers. Last week Harry re ceived another letter from Manager Phillips, who is at his home in Char leroi, Fa., requesting him to sign up with Phillips’ team for next season and offering flattering inducements. However Husky has decided not to listen to the song of the siren, and will report in the spring to the St. Louis Cardinals. Breaking his ank le in midseason while playing with Akron prevented him from joining the Cardinals when that club pur chased him. Husky has received a letter from the St. Louis Club in which it says that “if you report in good shape and catch the kind of ball you did last season in the iternational state league you will sure be a fix ture on the catching staff as this club is badly in need of receivers.”
