SMITHVILLE, Dec. 15.—Spl— Funeral services were held here Thursday ‘afternoon for Douglas Rogers Johnson, prominent Smith ville resident who died unexpect edly at his home late Wednesday after a short illness. Business houses’ in Smithville closed for the funeral, which was held at 3:30 p. m. at the family home. The Rev. J. Leonard Rae officiated with burial under the direction of the Marrs Funeral Home. Johnson was owner of the John son’s Department Store here. A native of Texas, he was born at Union 66 years ago, and had lived in Smithville for the past 20 years. He was a charter member of the Smithville Lions Club, a member of the school board for many years, a member of the board of stewards of the First Methodist Church, and a member of the Optimist “th and the Cham He was also a past patron in the Smithville chapters of Eastern Star. G. W. Kanuth, chaplain of the Smithville Masonic Lodge, read the graveside services. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Commellah Johnson; a son, Douglas R. Johnson of Smithville; two sisters, Mrs. William Kessler of Del Rio and Miss Mamie John son of Dallas; and four brothers, Floyd Johnson of Fort Worth, and R. E. Johnson, R. F. Johnson, and never R.
