Married By Sheley. Saturday’s Daily. William Edward Smith, 28 of this city, a coal miner and Mabel Inez Martin, 37, a practical nurse of this city, were married at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon by J. C. Sheley, jus tice of the peace in the clerk’s of fice at the court house. New Year's Dinner Dance Letters for the New Year’s tur key dinner and dance to be given by the E’ks, have been sent out by the committee and many answers have already been received. So many have signified their intentions of at tending this elaborate social affair that the ones in charge have no doubt but that it will be one of the best events of its kind ever given here. Speches and music will open the program at three o’clock in the aft ernoon of January 2 and will be con cluded at one o’clock following. Not am nednate will be dull as preparations have been made for some sort of en tertainment to be in progress all of the time, Carmichael’s orchestra from Bloomington has been engaged and as they have quite a reputation as musical entertainers the dinner and dance promises to be a success. Only tlks and members of their families are to participate in the festivities, Woodmen Elect. The Washington Camp of the Woodmen of the World elected the following officers Thursday night: 1.4, Hammon Shepard; A. A., Luth er Steele; banker, Frank Ragsdale; clerk, A. M. Kelso; escort, Edward Shepard; Watchman, Sanford Gil more; sentry, Warren A. Routt, member of auditing committee, Jes se Suyons. Lawson H. Stuckey re tires from the office of clerk, an of fice which he has held for the last twenty-one years. He was first elected at the second annual election held by the local camp and had been in continuous service since. In ad dition to the election of officers the lodge heard a fine address by W. E. Cady, of South Bend, who is state manager of the order. Mr. Cady ex plained that all members who have dropped out of the order since 1919 Maay reinstate by the payment of one month's dues. Mrs. Tessie Gillespie left at noon for her home in Joawrenceville fol lowing a visit here with Mrs. J. E. Tartan. Miss Femma Henson has gone to Black Oak to spend the weekend with Mrs. Harry Clark. Mrs. Charles Raymann is the guest of Mrs. A. C. Jones of Indianapolis. Mrs. Esther Adams is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Frances Scott, of Loogootee. Miss Ittta Lyons of Loogootee is here visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Joe seck., Mrs. James Purkhiser went to Seymour this afternoon where she will visit her mother, Mrs. Joe Hulse. Mrs. Ames Ragles of Elnora was in the city yesterday. Miss Edith Waller arrived at noon from Eivansville for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Waller, of East Fifth street. Elbert Riester, eight-year-old son of Clarence Riester, rode to Mont gomery this morning on his bicycle, making the trip in an hour and twen ty minutes. He expects to spend the weekend with his grandparents. Seymour Tribune: Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lyhan, who have been vis iting Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kaufman for the past few days, returned to their home in Washington this morning. H. H. Rose who has been here vis iting relatives returned to Terre Haute today to resume his employ ment. Mr. and Mrs. John Dant and daughter Geraldine of Terre Haute and Mr. Will Brooks and daughter Mabel, of Bedford, have returned to their home after attending the fu neral of Mrs. Joe Disser which took place Friday at Montgomery. Mrs. Mary Sinclair, Miss Anna Zin kan, Joe Zinkan, Mrs. Joe Keller and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Alberty were at Montgomery Friday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Joe Disser. Mabel Wadsworth Married Monday’s Daily. Miss Mabel Wadsworth, formerly of Washington and well remembered here, was married on December 7 to Albin G. Burnett, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, the ceremony taking place in the First Methodist church at De troit, Minnesota. P. R. Wadsworth, father of the bride and her sister, Mrs. Mildred css witnessed the cere mony. Mr. Burnett is a merchant and rancher at Fort Washakie and they will make their home in that city. Mrs. Burnett is a sister of Dr. H. C. Wadsworth, of this city. Young Folks Attend Party. Misses Moses Dearmin and Vivian Spurgeon of Odon entertained last Friday evening at the home of the former. The out-of-town guests were Clara Ellis, Mildred Warred Ruth Schofield, Mary Kehoe , and Eleanor Waller, and Gardiner Meade, Charles Ellis, Tom Kell, Hayes Gill, and Dick McCrisaken of this city. Licensed To Mary, Migardt Tedrow, who gave his place of residence as Alfordsville and Dortha Witt, who gave Brazil as her home town, obtained a license to marry at Lawrenceville, Jr., last week, Delightful Party. Little Miss Eleanor McAtee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Mc Atee, was hostess to a few friends Saturday afternoon from two until four o’clock with a party. The small guests received favors of stockings filled with Christmas candy. Malcolm Johnson is in the city from New York for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. John son, of south Meridian street. Mrs. Effie Cox, son Patly and daughter Zeta motored to Cornetts ville Sunday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds. Mrs. and Mrs. Charles McWilliams and daughter Artie, who has just completed a course in nursing at Indianapolis, motored from Plain ville to Cornettsville Sunday after noon to visit Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds. Mrs. Minnie Rink has gone to Va lonia where she will visit her fath er, W. T. Crowe. Mrs. Albert Brewer of Indianapo lis is in the city visiting relatives. Mrs. J. C. Reed and Mrs. A. J. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Haag, of 409 South 7th street, entertained at a 1 o'clock dinner at their home Sun day in honor of their out-of-town guests, Mrs. Guy Seisert and son, Leo and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pier cy and son Lester, who motored here from Ellery, Ill., and Mrs.. Haag’s mother, Mrs. Mattie Clayton’s fifty second birthday. Surprise Supper. Members of Eureka Rebekah lodge delightfully surprised Mrs. TF. O. Vance last evening at her home, 406 N. Meridian street. Well-filled bask ets brought by each one contributed to the delicious supper. Brotherhood Supper. The Men’s Brotherhood class of the First Methodist Sunday school will hold its annual bean supper in the dining room of the church Thursday night. All the men of the church ‘are invited. Supper wil be served at 6:30 o’clock. There will be music by the Sunday school orches tra and a talk by the Rev. Golden £. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church of Petersburg, Bazaar and Dinner. The ladies of the Westminster Presbyyterian church are holding their annual bazaar and dinner in the basement of the church today. A chicken dinner with everything good that goes with it will be served at noon. Various hand made articles are on sale at the booths. We Beg Your Pardon. At the request of Miss Alice Tie man, formerly of this city, now of California, the Democrat hastens to correct on, account of her reported marriage, printed in this paper on December 1. The report of the mar riage was due to a misunderstanding on the part of a close friend of Miss Tieman’s and the Democrat accept ed the statement of her marriage as a fact. Christmas Dance. The Tri Kappas are completing arrangements for a christmas dance to be held at the K. of C. hall Tues day night, December 27. Scoble’s or chestra has been engaged for the dance. Nothing is to be left undone by the sorority members to make the dance a most delightful affair. The proceeds are to be used by the Tri Iappas in local charity work and it is the earnest desire of all the menbers that the dance be well pat ronized as there is much need for money for charitable work here at home Mrs. Curt Ellis of Plainville was a guest here yesterday. Wednesday’s Daily. The willing workers class of the United Brethren church will hold a market Saturday, December 17, at Sowler’s Furniture store. Surprise Mrs. Lacroche. Friends of Mrs. Constant Laroche pleasantly surprised her Sunday by gathering at her home on the Troy road with well-filled baskets and pre paring a sumptuous dinner. A most enjoyable day was pased by the guests. These present were Mr. and Mrs. Emile Brochin: Mr. and Mrs. John Veale: Mrs. Mary Hancock; Mr. and Mrs. Emile Laroche and children: Mr. and Mrs. Gus Brochin and children Mr. and Mrs. John Ca mary and children: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brochin and children; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McKinney and chil dren; Mr. and Mrs Constant Laroche Misses Lola McKinney, Mary Veale, and Rosetta Laroche; and Cameron Veale. Delphian Club Meeting. The Delphian club will meet to morrow night at the City Hall at 7 o'clock. Both the afternoon and evening classes are expected to at tend, Riley Memorial Drive. The Daviess county organization for raising money for the James Whitcomb Riley hospital for chil dren to be erected at Indianapolis, will make a drive for funds Sunday January in all the churches. The hospital, a memorial to Jas. Whitcomb Riley, is to be a free state hospital to which any child residing in Indiana may be admitted for medical or surgical attention. It is to be endowed by the state of Indi ana with an annual appropriation for operation. It is to be built by the friends of the Hoosier poet and those who appreciate the need of erecting a hospital for Indiana’s children as the most fitting tribute to honof his memory. It is assured of the best medical facilities by co operaton with the Robert W. Lonf hospital, Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indianapolis City Hospital. The memorial is conceiv ed to benefit the children of Indiana and dedicated to improve their health, correct their physical de formities and prepare them for life as normal children with sound bod ies and clear minds. High Grade Concert. The Metropolitan Quartet, third number of the high school lecture course appeared at the Baptist church Tuesday night before the usual] Jetcure course crowd. Inter spersing their numbers with a fre quent comedy they made their pro gram entertaining for all. The per sonality of the individual members of the company added much to the entertainment. Every number was vigorously applauded, from the bell ringing selections to the vocal num bers. Each member of the company is an artist and their combined work gave the audience and evening of fine music such as is available only on rare occasions. House Warming At Dillon Home. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Broth erhood of Railroad Trainmen met at the home of Mrs. Willard Dillon, southeast First street, Tuesday, with well filled baskets for a house warm ing. ‘The Dillons have recently mov ed into their new home. The home and table were decorated with ferns and pot plants. ‘The table fairly groaned with the dinner that was spread . Music, dancing, and con versation were the main diversions of the afternoon. Group pictures were taken of the guests. Everyone reported a good time. Those enjoy ing the affair were Mrs. Eva Hol stine, Mrs. Marie Chandler, Mrs. Ruth Rittenhouse, Mrs. Etta God win, Mrs. Goldie Clayton, Mrs. Grace Clayton, Mrs. Margaret Williams, Mrs. Lucretia Orr, Mrs. Mae Smith, Mrs. Maude Gilley, Mrs. Arnie Green, and Mrs. Hattie Dillon. Entertains Tri Kappa Sorority Mrs. Maud Keifer, one of the re tiring patronesses of the local chap ter of Tri Kappa Sorority, entertain ed the chapter with an elaborate dinner Tuesday evening. The Keifer home was beautifully decorated with Christmas greens and poinsetta. The table decorations al so were carried out in red and green, suggestive of the approaching holi day season. the following menu was served: Roast turkey, Gravy, Dressing, Washed potatos, Cranberry ice Hot rolls,
