There was much bitter complaint on the part of the audience that saw the closing performance of “Kausel and Gretel? at English’s, Saturday night It had been announced that the curtain would go up atsS o'elock sharp, as the company desired to leave the city on a cet train, and while those present xpected that the performance would be fetered through with, they were not pre pared for the wholesale cutting of the opera that was indulged in. The curtain was rolled down at exactly 0:50, the per formance being cut more than an hour. The denunciatory remarks heard on all sides indicated that the audience was thoroughly mad. “The midnight special” is the attrac tion at the Park for the first half of this week. The play is an interesting melo drama and is full of new things. The advance sale of seats for the Stuart Robson engagement at the Grand, be ginning christmas matinee, will even at Pembroke arcade, Thursday morning, TOL HE Hoyt’s “A Texas steer,” with Tim Mur phy in the leading role of “Maverick Brander,” comes to English’s, Dec. 23, 24 and 23. The sale of seats begins at Pembroke arcade, Thursday morning. “Stumpty-Dumpty,” Wick Roberts’ famous christmas pantomime, will be the attraction at the Empire, this week, com mencing with Monday’s matinee. It is said to be better than ever, everything being new in the way of specialties, scenery, etc. Among the specialty peo ple are Stirk, Zeno and Mile Anita, in their wonderful aerial act; the Blondin Bros., musical artists; the sisters Castle, contortion dancers; Robert Roberts, the famous “Pantaloon;” Fanny Raymond, vocalist, and several others. The three famous clowns, Grimaldi, Dromio and Pedro, will try and entertain. Ladies’ and children’s matinee daily.
