One of them looked after, the engineers and fireman while the otherwent through the ears, and though a captain of the regular array with a detail of five armed soldiers was. on board; not the slightest resistance was offered. It is,however, explained that the captain wouldhave interfered only that the passengers pleaded so earnestly that he forebore, andsuffered his men to yield their arm# when the robber go commanded. If that officei escapee a court-martial, the army will have at least one poltroon on its roster. The robbers secured but little booty—the passengers haring confided their money and valuables to ladies Who seem to have had more courage than the men. One of these was a Mr*. Chamber*, Of Potsdam,'ho held some five thousand cfoilar* worth of diamonds.
