Marionville’s Comets con tinue to set the pace for Mid west Conference teams as they kept their unbeaten string in tact Tuesday night at Green field via a 65-61 loop victory. The charity stripe proved the final outcome they outscored the host Wildcats at the line, 15- 3. In other loop games, Lock wood manhandled host Miller, 77-530 and Jasper dumped host Golden City as Jerry Buhn and Ron Cunningham combined for 50 points. At Liberal, Danny Kleeman meshed 33 markers to help the Sarcoxie Bears turn back the host Bulldogs, 64-55. The Comets displayed a balanced attack en route to their fourth season victory in as many outings. It was the loop opener for both schools. Green field now sports a 2-4 overall mark. Leading the Comets was Der win Springs with 14 points as Jimmy White chipped in 13 markers. Five Marionville players scored in double figures. Game honors went to Greenfield’s David McNeel with 24 markers as Bill An drews and Daryl Hutchman ad ded 18 and 15 points, respec tively. Marionville never trailed in the contest, despite Robert Jackson's host quintet keeping it close. The visitors enjoyed quarter leads of 23-14, 36-31 and 53-45. The Comets won the preliminary B game, 48-44. Gary Keeling’s Jasper quin tet got off to a slow start this season. But they're making amends in conference play as they now sport a 2-0 loop slate. Bunn took game scoring honors with 28 markers as Cun ningham totaled 22. Leading Golden City were Les LeFon and Tim Davis with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Golden City is now 0-2 in loop action and 2-5 overall. Jasper also captured the Jayvee contest, 39-38. The Eagles moved out early with a 21-10 first period bulge, stretching it to 37-25 at the in termission. Each club tallied 18 points in the third frame as Keeling began to substitute as much as possible. Kleeman continues to lead the loop's points race, sparking Sarcoxie their second win in five outings. Liberal is winless in two loop contests and is 1-5 for the season. Ed Kilpatrick added 13 markers to the winning cause while Liberal was paced by Danny Dickey and Steve Fast with 18 and 12 points. Perry Finley is pursuing Kleeman in the points race as his 24 points sparked the Tigers over the host Miller Cardinals. The 6-1 senior ended with game scoring honors while Mike Fry and Kevin Sears aided the win ning effort with 12 points apiece. Miller was led by Kelly Spen cer with 18 markers. Lockwood, 2-0 in loop play and 43 overall, led 28-8 at the end of the first period and never failed thereafter. Miller fell to 1-6 for the season and 1-1 in the league race. Van Breda Kolff, in his third year as coach of the team, was fired Tuesday. Baylor has been an assistant coach with the Jazz since it was formed for the 1974-75 sea son. He served as interim coach for one game after Scot ty Robertson was fired and be fore van Breda Kolff was hired. Robertson was fired when the team was 1-13 in its initial sea son. The Jazz finished the sea son 23-59, went 38-44 last season and now is 15-12.
