George Johnson, prominent and successful farmer and stockman of Hays, died Sunday at the age of 90 at Hadley Reg ional Medical Center where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Johnson lived at 208 West 7th St., having moved to town from his farm a number of years ago. He is survived by a daugh ter, Miss Lily Georgine John son of Los Angeles, Calif; two sons, Peter W. Johnson and Norman Johnson of rural Hays. There are seven grandchildren and three sisters; Mrs. Walter Nelson, Salina; Mrs. Martin Replogle, Hays; and Mrs. Lily Murphy, Long Beach, Calif. Mr. ‘Johnson as born March 23, 1879, at Omaha, Neb., and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Johnson to Elis county in 1886. They located on a farm southwest of Hays and he had lived in Ellis County ever since, a total of 83 years. He had attended the Lookout rural school, the Hays Normal School, and Kansas Wesleyan College at Salina. He taught school at Natoma and at Mor land and had a record of 18 terms teaching in the rural schools of Hillis County. In September of 1917 he was married to Addie B. Frost who died in 1954. He was proud of the fact he had been a mem ber of the Farmers Co-Op for 30 years and had been a member of the board of directors for much of that time. For 15 years he had been a member of the ASC, was a member of the Ma sonic Orders and for two terms was Master of the Lodge. He was a member of Trin ity Lutheran Church where fun eral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Earl Wall officiating. There will be Masonic graveside services at Mt. Allen cemetery. Mr. Johnson's parents came to Ellis County in the era when log cabins were the common habitation. There were seven children in the family all to be fitted into one small log house. Soon after the Johnsons were established the parents of the late Hans Jensen came to settle down with nine children. The Jensens had no place to live until they could build a house and Peter Johnson, recognizing a family in distress invited the Jensens, all 11 of them, to share his abode. This they did until their house could be built and all turned out well for the Johnsons and the Jensens be came two of the most prosper ous families in the county and were always recognized as sol id, hard working and prosper ous. All of his life George John son was as deeply interested in the life of Hays and its welfare as he was in that of his own family. A memorial for Trinity Luth eran church has been establish ed by the Johnson family. Friends may visit Mall's Mortuary, until the funeral hour, GEORGE JOHNSON
