George Bellanger, 54, bache lor Indian living in a shack just south of Cass Lake was found, apparently slain, in a hallway of the Endian Hotel in Cass Lake early Tuesday. Cass County Sheriff Buck Simpson said that the cause of death has not yet been deter mined. An autopsy was being conducted in Grand Rapids this forenoon. Simpson said that a suspect is being held but that no charges have been filed. Early investigation showed, the sheriff said, that Bellanger had entered the hotel alone to visit someone. Simpson said it is believed that Bellanger had several hundred dollars on his person when he entered the hotel. When his body was found he had only three cents in his pocket, the sheriff said. Simpson said the man had re ceived a $300 check recently from the sale of some land in the Dakotas. He said $100 had been placed in the bank and Bel langer had kept the rest on his person. The sheriff said that the re sults of the autopsy should be available this afternoon. No weapon was found at the scene.
