PENNINGTON GAP, Va. (AP) — Joseph Stewart Jr. of Harlan, Ky. was shot to death Saturday night at a house about seven miles west of here near the Ken tucky state line. Lee County authorities said Stewart left the house and start ed to remove a light from a truck parked on the property. Bill Middleton told Stewart he was in charge of the property, owned by his cousin, Steve Middleton, who is in a federal penitentiary. Police said the men, 6th in their late 30's, were arg about the fight when Stewart led a gun and shot Middleton the left hand. Middleton then_aptied a .44 caliber pistol attewart and went into the house of an other gun. When he returned, Stewart was stretched across the front steps with six bullet holes in his bane Middleton was taken to a Pennington Gap hospital for treat ment of his hand. Commonwealth's Atty. Harry Rowlett said Middle ton made bond for a hearing in January.
