MRS* JANE HEXMary Jane Ackley, the youngest ot eleven children* daughter of James and Nancy Bright man Ackley, was born in Oswego county, N. Y. May 4, 1S42, where her childhood days were spent, coming west with her parents in 1854. Stopping in Illinois Tor a year, in the fall of 1855 they came to Iowa, reaching the old Ackley homestead November 24 th, where she remained until October 16, 1859, at which time she was united in mar-risge to Samuel Rex.To this union were born fourteen children, eleven of whom grew up, five boys and six girls.Six children preceded her in death, leaving five boys and three girls, an oi whom were present to aamin,istei to her wants the last week oi hei sickness except tielva B., who is in tne hospital at Yankton, H. 1).Mrs, Hex was active in the neighborhood and church up to Sunaaj, November 27, when she was stncKc. with her last sickness which termi, ated in the end of a perfect non. life, at 3:45 Wednesday afternoon, December 7th, that day being i, tv. v'.'.j-six*!* anniversary of tlt* hi* lt;■oi herf granddaughter Jane flu. Walster, gave up her life when Jane was about ten days old.Mother Rex's life was a full one, having made a home and cared ioi two orphans, A. 0. and Aide Aspei, cousins of Mr. Rex.Children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and neighlmr children always found a friend and companion in Mother Rex.Mrs. Rex's life companion was called in death July 2, 1908. Since that time she has maintained her home which was (always open to allJanuary 31,1914, she married a brother of Mr. Rex, Jacob A, who passed away February 10, 1921, in her home.She leaves to cherish her memory three girls, Ruth (Mrs, George Ritter), Mettie (Mrs. J. H. Haynes) and lfelva B.; five hoys, Charles T„ Ransom R.t and Samuel J. of Marble Rock, Clyde J. of Webster City, Iowa, and Clifford P. of AllaroOsa, Colo., fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, an only brother, Russell J. Ackley, the only living member of the pioneer Ackley family, nieces and nephews and a host of friends will miss her smile.Mrs. Rex’s Christian life eommen-n+ tbf» 'iotp of twelve. havingbeen buried with her Lord and Master in baptism, she united with the I’reewill Baptist church in the state of New York, but taking up the borders of a home with its multiplied cares, her church was neglected, but her Christian faith strengthened and when the home cares pci mitted she took up the church work, uniting with the Church of Christ in Marble-Rock in the fall of 1908, faithful t attendance and doing her mite.Sixty-six of the 79 years, 7 months and 3 days of her life span, were spent in this vicinity, and over 30 years in the Aureola home.Services at the home- were m charge of G. A Hess of Charles City and C, Baber of the Christian church oi Marble Rock. Interment was at Hillside cemetery.
