Police Pickings. A man named Asbury, residing north of the city limits in the vicinity of Cedar creek where it crosses the bottom road, was arrested by Officer Harvey, yester day. He is charged with cruel treatment of his wife, whom he turned out her home the other day. Theodore Edward Henry is the some what elongated name given by “Plunk” the colored boot-black known somewhat to fame as the jockey who rode “Parachute” in several successful mounts during the summer. Some days ago a veteran of the Soldiers’ Home was arrested on the leyoe for being drunk. He was in a sa loon. When arrested he complained of a pain in the shoulder. An investigation of the shoulder disclosed the fact that one of the bones above the chest had been broken.The veteran stated that he had been thrown down and kicked by a color ed boy whom he refused to treat. Yes terday, in company with Officer Bluck berger he pointed out Plunk as the per son who had kicked him. Plunk denies the charge — saying that the soldier was tripped by a white man named George, and that he (Plunk) did not touch him. Our police report was crowded out yes terday. Of the Third street colored peace disturbers, Martha Murray was fined $17.50, Elizabeth Murray $17, and Maria Gilke $13.60. Belle Denton was fined $12 for assaulting Queen Maddox. Nellie Payne was sent to the house of correction for 41¢ days for being drunk. Joseph Schlottman was fined $13.50 for using a hack for an immoral purpose. He appealed the case to the circuit court. Hannibal's Postoffice. The supervising architect of the treasury at Washington has opened bids for labor and materials for plumbing and gas fitting required for the postoffice building at Hannibal. The bids range from $1,850 to $4,800. ‘The lowest bid was made by Burnham Haywood. ‘They belong to Hannibal as do the other four bidders. Mild, soothing and healing in Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy. At Sedalia, Mo., last Saturday John M. Cooper and Miss Willise Spurgeon called at the office of the county recorder and took out a marriage license. Miss Spur geon is an heiress, the owner of a third in terest in a large estate. At the same time she filed a contract for record, signed by her intended husband, in which he waives all rights he may gain by reason of his marriage to the young lady in her prop erty, and also agrees to in no way inter fere with the owner in whatever disposi tion she chooses to make of her posses sions. He also agrees that whatever property she accumulates in the future shall be subject to the same conditions. It is a queer document, and when its con tents were divulged it created quite a sen sation in this city and county.
