Job s Daughters GrandGuardian Is Lois GerreBy JOANNE ZERKELAnd in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job And their father gave them inheritance among their brethren Job47:15To Tinley Park's Lois Gerre those words are an integral part of her life She is the Grand Guardian of Illinois In ternational Order of Job’s Daughters which has 73 local Bethels or clubs and a mem bership of almost 2,800 girls The organization was founded in 1921 and is a fraternalclub for girls ages 11 to 20 who are related to Master Masons in good standing Tinley Park's Bethel No 29 is a member of the organization as is Homewood Bethel No 109 Both Gerre daughters. Donna and Jill, are members of the Homewood BethelLOIS IS a member and past president of the Evergreen Park Bethel 13 and now active in the Homewood Bethel with her daughters That is what I consider one of the most important aspects of Job s Daughters parentsStar RecipFilesDecember 7,1978Lois GerreCold Carrot Salad2 packages carrots slicedcrosswise1 medium onion sliced thin1 green pepper sliced thin1 can tomato souphoursSeven Layer Salad1 head lettuce brokencup thinly sliced onioni■i cup cooking oil1 cup sugar 34 cup vinegar 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon each salt and pepperCook carrots quickly to rapid boil. Carrots should be' 4 cup diced celery 14 cup green pepper :i4 cup shredded carrots1 pint mayonnaise2 tablespoons sugar8 slices of cooked crumbled bacon 6 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese Layer all ingredients in flat or rectangular pan Pour mayonnaise overall Knrinlclp mmnr (in ton* *working with their children Parents can go to the meetings with their daughters They attend various social and service functions with their daughters They do things together I think that is very important So often, children are urged to join organizations for various rea sor.s and the parents are left out In Job s Daughters, it is very different Parents are urged and encouraged to support their daughter through her growth in the organization, Lois said The organization, Lois added, helps girls develop a complete personality.It teaches them public speaking, memory improvement It helps them learn how to get along with others It shows them how to develop social graces, she said In fact, the word fair from the text of Job in the Bible does not mean fair in terms of physical or material “fairness.” Instead, the organization fosters interior fairness” to the extent that dues are small and for certain events, all girls dress similarly (many Bethels make their own formal gow ns as a project).AS GRAND Guardian for the state, Lois travels throughout Illinois visiting various Bethels and attending functions they sponsor. She also had the responsibility to generate a promotional project that all Bethels work on during her yearproject and it is working out beautifully, she said adding that the theme this year for Job's Daughters is For Everything There is a Season” and the promotion is to beautify their community by planting a tree, shrub or flowersA trim, soft-spoken woman, Lois becomes animated when she talks about the Job'sDaughters' special project, funding for two therapy rooms for children at the Illinois Ma sonic HospitalThe girls support two rooms at the hospital for children They pay for a full-time physical therapist and also for toys that the children may takehome with them The local dues are verv small, so they holdV y wfund-raisers and work to raise money for this project It is a continuing one and one we feel is very worth-while,” she saidof service.AS A YOUNG girl. Lois was active in her Bethel and as her daughters careers in Job'sDaughters grew so did her owninvolvement as an adult She has held several offices. Her daughter.
