Effort Being Made To Secure Appointment As Warden of Prison At Leavenworth, Kan.Des Moines.—That an effort is being made to secure the appointment of Frank B. Clark, United States marshal, to the office of warden of the United States prison at Leavenworth, Kans., is the statement madeby attachees of the federal court. Mr. Clark has been marshal for the southern district of Iowa for several terms and in connection with his duties in that office, he has made a close study of prison conditions in this country. Mr. Clark’s term as marshal expires this month. He neither would affirm or deny the rumor that he is seeking the office. “I 'Jo not know whether 1 would care for that sort of work,” he said. Warden McLaughrey, who is now head of the prison at I^eavenworth, is one of the best-posted prison authorities in the world. He has held the office for many years, but it is stated he is about to retire because of advancing age.
