OBSERVING the birthdays of two of its members, a group of close friends met Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Olseth. Supper was served at eight o'clock, and an informal evening followed, Miss Mabel Highby and Mrs. A. B. Anderson were compli mented, REV. AND MRS. 8. T. Sorenson were host and hostess to the First lutheran choir after their Christ mas concert Sunday evening. Fol lowing the buffet lunch which was attractively served, the members enjoyed some very short speeches by their president, their host and others telling them how good they were. Spontaneous good fellowship characterized the evening to com plete a fine fall season for the choir. . FRIDAY afternoon Mrs.Bruce Helm and Mrs. Arthur Seeger gave a shower for Miss Eva Olson at the Sherman home on First street. The afternoon was spent informally and gifts presented to Miss Olson by her friends. A delicious lunch was served, a very attractive portion of which was the bridal cake made by Miss Olson's sister, Mrs. Clifford Peter son. Miss Olson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Olson of Hayward, and will be married Christmas day to Mr. Merrill Hutchins, MR. AND Mrs. L. H. (Marty) Schwartz, were pleasantly surpris ed Sunday evening by thirty friends at their new home at the corner of Sheridan and Harding avenue. At 6:30 o'clock a supper was served by the self-invited ger's. After the supper Clarence Nockerby of Austin, in behalf of those present, presented Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz with a purse of mon ey with which to purchase some thing for their new home. A so cial evening was spent in playing bridge the guests leaving after ex tending their best wishes, JONES-JENSEN MISS ELSIE Mae Jones, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Jones of Lansing became the bride of May nard Jensen, son of Mrs. Caroline Jensen of Clarks Grove. They were united in marriage by the Rev. Finn Magelsson, December second. The bride was attended by Miss Ollie Means of Albert Lea. The groom was attended by his brother James Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen left im mediately for a brief wedding trip. They are now at home on a farm northeast of Clarks Grove. A GROUP of friends and rela tives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Miller near Hay ward, at a miscellaneous shower, given in honor to their niece Miss Ellen Barber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barber, Friday evening, Dec. 10. The bride-elect received many useful and beautiful gifts. The bride and groom, after the opening of presents, each respond ed with a hearty thanks to all the guests, who were then invited to attend their wedding, which is to take place at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Dec. 30 at the Oakland, Baptist church, Oakland, Minn. MR. LLOYD Sande, and sister, Miss Clara, were host and hostess to a group of friends at their home Thursday evening. The eve ning was spent in playing progres sive whist and banco. High honors went to Milford Perkins, Casper Garder, Opal Bang and Pearl Lof thus. Other games were also en joyed. Lunch was served by Miss Sande and Miss Opal Bang, who has been a guest at the Sande home, for the past week. Other guests included: Sophus Halstad, Eileen Lair, Pearl Helle, Ernest Hengesteg, Lloyd Hagerude, Agnes Benson, Marcella Larson, Bernard Benson, Lynn Palmer, Flor ence Sanderson and Arnold Per kins, ++ MORE than a thousand people were inspired by the spirited rendi tion of “The New-Born King by the choir of First Lutheran church in that church last evening. As the choir swelled into the final chorus, the souls of all were fired by the mighty words, “For His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.” In the spirit of the closing hymnal) joined Intonation and attack distinguish ed the choir's singing. Outstanding was the powerful tenor soloist, Prof. Carsten Woll. As his dramatic interpretation sped the words of his first solo, one could sense the in tensity of the thrilled audience. And again, in a later solo, “And His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God,” that man was dead indeed whose soul was not gripped. The sustained, effortless singing of Irving Nelson, and the sweet pur ity of tone exhibited by both Mrs. Mabel McDonald and Miss Wathing completed the evening’s musical achievement. Both the directing hand and the organ accompaniment was ably supplied by Prof. L. J. Em mons, to whom credit is due for the evening's entertainment. Through word and song it is hop ed the Spirt of Our Father touched hearts to ask in childlike faith that the child Jesus be born anew as King of their hearts this Christmas tide. +b t THE EAST Albert Lea Farmers club met in schoolhouse Dist. 37 Friday evening, Dec. 10. The meet ing was called to order by the president. The minutes and treas urers report was read and approved. A new entertainment committee was appointed. They are Mrs. Leth er, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Johnson. The meeting was then turned over to the entertainment commit tee. The entertainment was as fol lows: Three-piece orchestra — Mrs. Brown, Mr. Julius Brown and Miss Giroia Brown, Accordion selections — Lornie Waener. Piano and violin selections Mrs. John Hanson and Mr. Thomas Doyle. Yodeling songs—Gloria Brown. Music selections — Chris Rosen berg and jig, Jim Carey. Cowboy songs—Lawrence Wease man and Gloria Brown. _ Music and songs — Lawrence Weaseman. Following the program a fine lunch was served by Mrs. T. E. Doyle, Mrs. Jim Carey and Mrs. Harry Johnson. A social time fol lowed. + + STEVENS-WICHMANN ON MONDAY, Dec. 6, Miss Shir ley A., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stevens of Armstrong, became the bride of Harry E. Wichmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wich mann of Conger. The double ring marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. H. Neuman at the Bear Lake St. John’s Lutheran church at one o'clock. The bride wore a Wallis blue crepe dress with a corsage of Talis man roses. She was attended by her sister, Allison, who wore a green crepe dress with a corsage of yellow roses. The groom was attended by August Wichmann, his brother. Both were attired in dark suits and wore boutonnieres. The bridal march was played by Leona Wichmann. The song, “Bless Be the Tie,” was sung by Leona, Alma, and Viola Wichmann. A reception and dinner was held at the Earl Steven home for the immediate families. In the evening relatives and friends gathered for the wedding dance at the Palm Garden in Albert Lea. Many beau tiful gifts were received by the couple and wishes for a happy mar ried life were extended. Mr. and Mrs. Wichmann left Thursday morning for a trip to Ok lahoma visiting relatives and friends. Denies Robbery Charge Duluth, Minn., Dec. 13.47) George Hoyt, known to police as “Little Butte,” came before Judge M. M. Joyce in federal court today and denied his guilt to a federal indictment charging him with com plicity in the robbery of the mails at Hibbing 11 years’ ago and the kidnaping of a railway mail clerk.
