; TO THE TEACHER AND SCHOOL ; OFFICALSState of Now Mexicoi Greetings:—- At this opportune time I desire i to extend to the loyal circle of New i Mexico school teachers and admin*■ istrative school officials a most sincere and heartfelt wish that eacb of you may receive the highestmeasure of Yuletide blessings.In the midst of the difficulties with • which we are confronted in our work■ growing out of the war and amid the : present flu situation, the State Dc-I partment of Education has no otherpurpose than to continue the cam-Caign for more education in Newlexico.I We gratefully acknowledge to thei teachers and administrative schoolofficials the splendid spirit andwholehearted cooperation that this department has enjoyed in the past land we ask, at the beginning of a new year, that we may be accorded the same consideration, in the workof this office, that we have had in the past.At the heart of the problem of I improving the schools is the teacher. We want to dignify the work and exalt the worth of the teacher and to this end, we want to use every agency at our command to better prepare the teachers of our state for their important mission. The basis service which is expected of the teachers of our public schools, during war periods, differenciatee very slightly, in the last analysis, from the service expected in peace* ful days. We want to enlist the strongest forces and the strongest men in the several communities for the cause of education, and we still believe that this education, that we all prise so highly, is the chief business of a republic. Let us then ap-Sreciate the inheritance that is be-ore us and resolve that all the noble sacrifices which have been made ; shall be the stepping stones toward a higher civilization that is to come.We have always believed that conventions are strong agencies not only for the inculcating of new ideas but for disseminating the inspiration that can be gathered in such meetings and we hope that as manjr teachers as possible will find it convenient to attend the annual meeting of the New Mexico Educational Association in Albuquerque on December 26, 27. and 28.Let us confidently and resistless!? work for the increased efficiency of the teaching body of the State of New Mexico and promote every movement that will tend to establish greater dignity and stability to the teaching profession.
