cie:$6lt;nyexj:ne*re n bar 23. sub burtoCaiIa li in shoonernlproHAGARSTOWN.—This Town is the Seat of Justice for Jefferson Township, and is situated about fourteen miles North West of CentreviUe. The original plat of Hagars-town bears date the 15th day of November, 1832. and was laid out by Jacob Ulrich and James Harris, Proprietors. A second addition was laid out in August, 1838, by Jacob Ulrich and Abraham Kinsey. In October, of the same year, a third addition was made by Jacob Ulrich, Henry He* man, George Gilles-pie, lt;$* Co. In December, 1838, a fourth ad* j|(n, dilion was laid out by Jacob Wolf, Jesse Myers and Jefferson Walters. The several additions contain 500 Lots.Hagarstown i’ pleasantly situated near the junction of Nettle Creek and West River, and is surrounded by a soil as rich and as well j ces cultivated as any in the State. These streams j the afford, during most of the year, a large amount j Cuj of water power, the improvement of which it will be seen from the quantity of machinery propelled, is by no means neglected.In 1836 Hagarstown contained about fifteen houses, embracing shop9, and a population of from 30 to 40.
