BY DON HILL Sports writer ELLISVILLE — Jones Junior College head bas ketball coach Robert McInnis needed near-per fect play from his Bobcats to take down Itawamba Community College Satur day afternoon. What McInnis got was exactly that, as JCJC head ed into the holiday break with an 82-77 win over the Indians from Fulton. “We played smarter today the whole game than we have had all year,” McInnis said. “Itawamba had a lot to do with the way we played. Their shots were deliberate and they were found fundamentally not helter-skelter.” The Bobcats had a lot of success working the ball close to the goal against the taller Indians, who have previously lost just one game with 10 wins. “We adjusted and took it inside,” McInnis said. “We have been practicing that, but it hasn’t been carrying over in games.” And when ICC bunched up inside, the Bobcats were just as effective from 19 feet away, getting three pointers from Stacy Keys, Scottie Faulkner and Uni versity of Southern Missis sippi signee Brad Richard son Center Al White, who had has been hitting in the high double figures in recent games, put in seven Saturday, but Karlos Fair ley wasn’t shut down as he dominated the boards and scored a dozen points. “Fairley did a complete job of defending, rebound ing and scoring,” McInnis said. McInnis was proud of the defense’s accomplish ment, too, as he said they ran zone, half-court traps and man-on-man defenses and didn’t make many mis takes. Richardson lead the Bobcats with 24 points, getting a dozen each half and made some key free throws on the second Keys and Johnny White put in 11 each and Faulkner scored 10 points in JCJC’s well-ballanced scoring attack, Jones has run its record to 8-5 and is scheduled to play in the East Central Classic at Decatur Jan. 6.
