Slain Dad’s Son Terms Convict Confession A Hoax MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP). “I think it’s all a hoax,” says Alabama Gov.-elect John Pat terson of a Virginia convict's confession that he killed Patter son’s father during a robbery attempt in 1954. Commenting Thursday night for the first time on the state ment by Calvin W. Pruitt, 28- year-old Alabama native serv ing a life sentence in Virginia, Patterson said it appeared false to him. However, he plans to investigate it thoroughly. The 37-year-ol attorney gen eral, who gained the post after the murder of his father Albert Patterson, reported two of his assistants have gone to Virginia State Penitentiary at Richmond to question Pruitt. The elder Patterson was kill ed shortely after he had been nominated attorney general. He had proposed, if elected, to clean up vice-ridden Phenix City. In Phenix City, meanwhile, unidentified official sources have hinted that at least a part of the murder gun, previously missing, has been found. They also revealed that wit nesses who had declined to come forward earlier did so aft er the conviction of former Chief Deputy Sheriff Albert Fuller on a murder charge. Their testimony, the sources said, reinforces the state’s case against Fuller, who had been charged along with former So licitor Arch Ferrell and ex-Atty. Gen. Si Garrett. Fuller was given a life term. Ferrell was acquitted and Gar ret never stood trial. On the basis of the weapon and the new testimony, the of ficials said, they were skeptical of Pruitt’s confession.
