Dr. Charles W. Purnell arrived home this morning, after having spent several days out of town. Mrs. George Biddle has returned home from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Zintl, at Philadelphia. Mrs. Daniel H. Brinsfield,who has been visiting friends in this city, has returned to her home in Vi enna. Judge and Mrs. John R. Pattison have returned to their home on Mill street, after spending several days in Annapolis. The change in the Weather has quickened the pulse of business very much, and everyone seems to be busy. The National Bank of Cambridge has an advertisement in this issue. It will be found on the _— second page, and will also be found to contain some unusually good advice. In a statement issued recently in Baltimore, Commander T. C. B. Howard, of the State Fisheries Po lice, stated that oysters are more plentiful this year than in many years gone by. Mr. Charles H. Stanley, at one time Comptroller of the State of Maryland, is reported to be weak er. Mr. Stanley has been ill for several months, and it is feared that he is gradually sinking. The Grand Opera House presents tonight “The Woman Scorned,” or “The Last of the Old Mill,’’ a re markably stirring and exciting drama. Big fire scene, getting rea dy to do or die on the blades of the old mill wheel, and other thrill ing scenes. The first of a series of public receptions to be given by Mrs. Phil lips Lee Goldsborough was held yesterday afternoon, from 4 to 6 o’clock, at Government House. Mrs. Goldsborough will receive every Thursday afternoon during the win ter season. Mr. Jos. W. Brooks, Jr.,of Madi son, this county, has sold the fine sea barge, Clara Brooks, to R. Duke Wathen, of the firm of Wa then Co., Baltimore. The vessel was built at Madison in 1909, and registers 472 tons, gross. Capt. Mar ion Woolford, who has been in command of the vessel since built, will continue to command her. The Eastern Shore Society of Baltimore City was organized last night, with nearly 200 charter mem bers, at a meeting held at the Bellvedere Hotel, Baltimore. Mr.Lynn R. Meekins, was elected to repre sent Dorchester county,while Col. Thos. J. Ewell, formerly of ‘‘Dor set,”” was made a representative, of Cecil. The first lot of inmates for the new Eastern Shore Hospital were brought from Baltimore this morn ing by Dr. Carey, the superinten dent of the institution. They will be taken care of during the con struction of the new building in the temporary hospital, formed by ad joining the Porter and MeIlvane residences together. Rev. S. Parks Cadman, whose sermon delivered Sunday evening during the Chautauqua was pro nounced by many persons the finest to which they had ever listened,has been secured to lecture at Zion Church Monday evening, Dec. 29. Dr. Cadman is one of the foremost lecturers in the country, and Cam bridge is very fortunate in being able to secure him. There are some people who do not read advertisements; there are many persons who do not under stand that the advertising columns of a newspaper contain more genu ine information than the reading columns.
