At this juncture Jim Belcher interfered and Brown, tuuning on hitn, struck him on the right side of* the head with a heavy teacuu and then, seizing a piece of broken grindstone, hurled it at Belcher, who escaped from the house and hid 111 the brush.After Brown had vented his fury upon the remaining dishes in the house he went away, but came back the next morning to see Bullis, who had been taken to the ranch of Patterson Bros., some distance from the Narcelle place. Belcher had summoned Dr. Mathias, who lives up on the Belle Pourche river and who dressed Bullis’ wounds. Bullis at that time was very weak and in a critical condition. Brown asked Bullis if he had any hard feelings against him, and his victim replied that he did not see how a man could feel any other way after the way he had been treated.Taking one of Narcelle’s horses, Brown rode to Pierre, a distance of 115 miles. .Thursday last it was learned that he did not make a stop in all the long ride.
