City Councilman Antonio Cardenas became the third council member to get the axe for non-payment of utility bills and city taxes in a surprise climax to Tuesday night’s coun cil meeting. The resolution to oust Car denas from the council develop ed quickly just before the meet ing adjourned when Mayor Cornejos pulled the resolution out of his pocket and read it. The resolution declared that Cardenas had forfeited his of fice because he owed city utili ties amounting to $42.10, and city taxes for 1963 amounting to $19. Recently appointed Council men Antonio Yanas and E. C. Munoz voted with Cornejo to approve the resolution. Carde nas abstained from voting Councilman Manuel Maldonado did not attend the meeting. After the resolution was passed, Cornejo announced that they would meet with their lawyers to pick out some nomi nees to fill the vacancy. The resolution was not on the agenda of the meeting, and clearly took City Manager George Ozuna and City Attor ney Arthur Godman by com plete surprise.
