George, were conducted s..t.urd'ty from Grace Presbyterian church, the Rev. A. E. Bennett officiated.Mrs. George came to Chicago from Jersey City a number of years ago and was educated in the local public schools. Her musical training resulted in her being the first Negro singer'to appear at Lincoln center, then presided over by the la»e Dr. Jenkin Lloyd Jones, well known abolitionist and friend of the Negro.She appeared also in several re-| citals at Orchestra hall and in I the Auditorium theater. Mrs. Geor-| ge. for several years, served as music critic for the Chicago Defender for a number of years.In 1927, Mrs. George was assigned to the task of directing the music activities for the Negro In Art J week, sponsored by a committee ofwell-known Chicago citizens. and a few years later she underwrote a concert in I he Friends of Music” series in connection with the Chicago World's Fair of 1933. Additional activities include her ^ervce aspresident of the National Association of Negro Musicians, work with the League of Women Voters and the Women's Federated clubs.A son, Albert B.
