Sherman,7 Myrtle avenue, Middletown, was Middletown’s (and probably Orange County’s) first battle cas' ualty. The War Department notified his mother, Mrs. Ursula M. Sherman, a widow, Monday night that Sergeant Shermon had died ’O action during the bombing attack3 on Hickam Field. Oahu Island.The man temporarily unaccounted for was Private Charles H. Russell of Howells, stationed at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu. The War Department informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Russell that he “had not been immediately accounted for” after the Sunday air raids.Sergeant Sherman was with Headquarters, 18th Pursuit Squadron, Army Air Force.
