not survive. It demised in 1869 and was never revived.• •Newborn Lodge No.,97 »The second lodge for Shelby county is Newham Lodge No. 97.. qrg^nued. at Newborn in 1862. The original petition for this lodge v is.. on file in the Grand Lodge, and contains many family namps familiar to Timpson people. From Its roster In 1859, wc read the following names: R. G. Reed, A. A. Reed. W. E. Lemons, C.E. Hughes. J. M Hughes, R. T. Hughes. W. P. Hughes, J. J. Hughes, L. C. Reed, R. L. Parker, H. C. Childress. J. C. Morrison, S. Sanford, Geo. A. Sanford, J. F. Reed, J. E. Hooper, Joab Sanford, A. Conway, James Wallter and S. W. Weaver. This lodge became more interesting to ua after it was moved to Beuna Vista, for there it was operated largely by members who later moved to Timpson and joined the Timpson lodge. The lodgebuilding burned at Bfeuna Vista while Dr. J. B. Bussey was worshipful master, which, we think, was in 1876. The building was never rebuilt in that town. ' Timpson sprang up In a fqw years, and almost the whole citizenry of Beuna Vista moved to the new town. The lodge was moved back to Pleasant Grove, near where It originated. Really this lodge• 1___-__J1 Sam Samford Lodge No. 1453 This lodge was organised and first known as Truitt Lodge in 1855, and Is the same age of Fort Worth Lodge US. It first held its meetings atmiTruitt. Store. oU WJUo* h“*J“ igkgSKwhom are five certificateGrove. Some of the members on the roll for 1859 are: David Sholar, W. S. Lambright, Thos! M Lambright, J..M. Taylor, Samuel Sanford. James Truitt, A. M. Truitt, J. H. Truitt, John May, G. N. Garrett, Jno. D. Todd. J. M. Fleming, D. M. King. J. L. King. William Red-ditt, P. L. Johnson and Edward Bryan. Seemingly along about 18G8, this lodge must have been moved to the new county scat. Center, for we find that Truitt Lodge No. 149 has never been reported demised, but has changed its name to Sam Samford, and continues to function to this day at Center. We also find that in 1872 there sprang up another lodge at Truitt's store by the name of Jim Truitt Lodge No. 3-15. In the early days of Sam Samford Lodge No. 149, functioning at Center, we find that the list of past masters and members are almost identical with those given at Truitt's store. But this lodge, like the town of Center, has grown rapidly, and is today the largest lodge in the county, boasting 237 members. It hss many interesting members and has furnished us District Deputy GrandourMasons, whose names are: S. C. McKee. H. B. Holt, J. H. Holt,F. P. Swanay and N. W. Lee.Next we have Tenaha Lodge No. 737. which was organized in 1893. Among its early membership we find many affiliates from Willow Grove. It now has 128 members, with the following list of past master*: M. B. Brown, J. T. Dixon. Joe Holt, O. P. Martindale. J. A. Scott. W. B. Rider, Ed Wall. J. M. Wall and J. H. Womack.• lAst, but by no meant iaast, comes Joaquin Lodge No. 856, with its roll of 178 members. It was organixed in 1901, but a history of Joaquin Masonry should begin with Truitt Lodge No. 149 and include Jim Truitt Lodge No. 345, for they are the foundation of the present lodge. Thia lodge, we believe, has jiad more certificate members than any other lodge in the county. We give here the list of past masters: C. B. Lambert. W. A. Blevins. S. S. McCreary. E. U Newton, L. Muldrow. A. G. Rushing, F. L. McNeill and M. E. Cole.Cow Feed at BUnken-
