Howell, father of ex-Sheriff and Senator Vinton Howell, died yesterday at his home three miles north of Bloomington at the age of S3 years. Hi had been a sufferer from the grif/ and from the first there were fears that he would not recover. Mr. Howell came to Normal township before the war and has lived there ever since, living on the same farm continuously. He was born near Morristown, N. J., Doc. 37, 1810, and moved to Licking county, Ohio, in 1834. In 1831 In married Matilda Preston, who died in 1875. Ten children blessed this union, five of whom survive, Llias Howell,Captain Preston Howell of South Dakota, Senator Vinton Howell of this city, Mrs.Mary K. John-*on who lived with her father, and Mrs. Harriet Wirt of Hey worth. Hr. Howell was - a member of the Congregational church and was a man whose reputation for uprightness and honesty was clean and honorable. He leaves a large circle of devoted friends who sincerely grieve at his death.
