FOR THE FORT WAYNE TIMES.Rights of Females.■ j It is strange yet true, that ihoro arc some j whose minds aro so contracted, as to suppose that I females bavo no right to tho enjoyment of anyI thing, save that of performing nets of vassalage i to those who stylo themsehes thoir superiors.— I They assign to woman certain prescribed limits, 5 as her sphere of action, beyond which she musti» not venture.f' And if perchance she should dare to assert her■ | privileges, and tako measures to maintain them, ■, she is assailed by gentlemen as trespassing uponi forbidden ground, and assuming prerogatives •I which do not belong to hor, and which she is in-* capable of tnaintaing. Such sentiments aro all* wroiior. Such views in relation to females wore t prevalent in tho benighted and barbarous ages, with.which, they should havo passed away, and f not to be advocated now in the nineteenth conlu-, ry, in tho broad blazo of truth and knowledge, i which is so abundantly diffused throughout the I civilized world. Wo are happy to know that those illiberal sentiments, as a general tiling, exist only among the savages, the uncultivated, and untutored. Females certainly have a higher vocation,.than fillingthooffice of slaves—than yielding servile obedience to the opposite sex.In the presence of tho writer, not long since, these orro .cons views were expressed by a very refined and sentimental young gentleman, and hence these remarks. Hie ideas ot females seems to be that they aro only qualified fur the most menial offices, and can possess no dignity of mind or nobleness of soul, which is so characteristic of the stronger sex. Possessing the true spirit of wyman, 1 duutn it my duty to defend my sex against such low scurrility, and vile insiuua-lt;* tions. We would advise the gentlemen to pause and reflect ere he fabricates any more invectivesto hurl at tho female sex..AH history proves that women are endowed with talents not inferior to those of men. They have held conspicuous positions in government and science, to which they have as largely contributed, in proportion to their facility and means, as those of the other sex. The doctrine of female imbecility is without foundation.] Fort Wayne’, Dee. 5, 1851. Eliza.
