ELKINS — U.S. Attorney William Kolibash Tuesday detailed the multiple indictments returned Monday by the federal grand jury against former Wellsburg Patrolman Joseph Cam pinelli, 47, who remains in the Brooke County Jail without bond on an array of charges, both federal and local. Kolibash said Tuesday the latest round of federal indictments against Campinelli include racketeering and conspiracy charges. The racketeering charges are in con nection with the burglary at the Fonce Di Costantino residence in Wellsburg June 26, 1984, involving an estimated $16,000 in goods; the May 21, 1984, unarmed robbery and abduction of Charles Tanley from his residence in Wellsburg and the theft of an estimated $15,000 in cash from his apartment; and the 1972 robbery of managers of the Kroger Co. and SuperX stores in Wellsburg Kolibash said conspiracy indictments against Campinelli include: —a charge that Campinelli conspired with the late Joseph Truglio on the Kroger and SuperX robbery. —a charge that Campinelli and Truglio met to discuss the robbery with two unnamed persons. —charges that Campinelli, while still a Wellsburg patrolman, picked up the two persons in a police cruiser and gave them his police revolver and acted as a hostage during the robbery that netted the robbers more than $7,200. —a charge that Campinelli parked his car in a Steubenville parking lot with the keys in the ignition and later reported the car stolen, constituting conspiracy for mail fraud. —a charge that Campinelli and Steve Sizemore attempted to break into the Frank Zatta residence in Avella. —a charge that Campinelli conspired with John Dino Martin, 35, of Follawsbee, to commit a burglary at West Liberty State College in 1979 while Campinelli was a private security guard at the college. —a charge that Campinelli conspired with former Wellsburg policeman Frank Silver to abduct and rob Tanley. —a charge that Campinelli and Silver planned the robbery with a third person and abducted Tanley and entered his apartment and stole $15,000 in cash. —a charge that on June 21, 1984, Cam pinelli, Martin and George Ely, 41, of Steubenville planned the DiCostintano robbery and took the stolen material to a person in Steubenville. —a charge that Campinelli showed the William Snow residence in Follawsbee to Martin, Ely and Chuck Jenny.The Snow residence was robb ed of more than $250,000 in cash, jewels, coins and handguns. Martin and Ely have entered guilty pleas in federal court and in Brooke County in connec tion with the Snow burglary). a charge that Campinelli was pre sent when the stolen items from the Snow residence were taken to Ely’s residence in Steubenville. a charge that Campinelli and Mar tin staged an armed robbery at the Joseph Tweedlie residence in Benwood July 5, 1985. ~a charge that in August 1985 Cam pinelli pointed out the Richard Mc Creary residence to Martin and receiv ed $100 as part of that house burglary. —a charge that during the summer of 1985 Campinelli and Martin robbed a house in Morgantown and a house in Star City, near Morgantown, of more than $200, —a charge that in 1985 Campinelli discussed the robbery of the Mascolino Market in Wellsburg. --a charge that Campinelli discussed with Martin killing Silver to prevent Silver from testifying against Campinelli. Kolibash said a count of interstate transportation of stolen goods also was returned against Campinelli in connec tion with the DiCostantion burglary.
