Mrs. Elsie Alvis, newly appointed executive secretary of the Floyd County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Tuesday issued an ap peal for blankets, bedding and clothing to be distributed to needy families in this district. Mrs. Alvis said clothing for children of school and pre-school ages is especially needed. Persons desiring to make dona tions are requested to notify Mrs. Alvis at the Chapter House. The telephone number is 1060. Mrs. Alvis recently assumed her duties in New Albany where she will manage the activities of the chapter and supervise poor relief. During the flood disaster, Mrs Alvis, long connected with the Am erican Red Cross, was area director. She is formerly of Salem. Henry Voelker, R. I. 1, Corydon, submitted to a surgical operation Wednesday in St. Edward's Hos pital.
