He stopped and tied the horse and stepped from the buggy with a gun In his hands. He had see a large snake, but huge bear apieared and rapidly upon the negro, when he recovered sufficiently from his fright tofire. Only bird shot was in the gun and served to enrage the animal. He continued toward the negro when two or three more loads were fired. The bear then turned and went into the swamp.
