The fire department was called out yesterday morning to the Gasser resi dence occupied by A. C. Greeg and family. The roof caught firm from the chimney but the blaze was extinguish ed before much damage was done. Lee Culbertson of Oakland, Calif., formerly of this city, arrived yester day for a visit with his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Culbertson and other relatives and old friends. Mrs. Angel of, Geneseo, IL, who had been spending several weeks with her daughter Mrs. Clement McCullough, returned home yesterday. Miss Willie Brown went to Albia yesterday to spend a few days with Mrs. Sanford Rea. Rev. W. G. Hohanshelt, pastor of the M. E. church, was called to Boone last evening, to conduct a funeral. Mrs. David Crawley of English township died suddenly at her home on Wednesday night with heart failure. Dr. D. ¥. Collins of Colorado, is here for an extended visit with his son, J. H. Collins and family and old time friends. He resided in this city many years ago. E. D. Holmes and family who recent ly moved to Eldorado Springs, Mo., have returned to Chariton. Mrs. Ira Bennett of St. Joe, Mo., is visiting in this city with her mother Mrs. Phillip Shelton who is seriously Mrs. Perry Norris of Guide Rock, Nebr., formerly of this county, is here for a visit with relatives and old friends in Chariton and Russell. Rev. C. C. Davis has returned from Des Moines where he attended the quarterly meeting of the board of managers of the Iowa Christian con vention of which he is a member. Will McCullough — and family of Broken Bow Nebr., formerly of this county, have returned to Chariton and he may decide to locate here. FARMINGTON. J. H. Joe Barber who moved to Louisiana in the fall arrived in Eddyville for a visit with friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Shahan of Albia are visiting at the home of their son Dr. Shahan, Miss Laura Ward has gone to Leon for at visit with her brother and his family. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Shilling have moved from the Jordan property west of Eddyville to the Mrs. Briggs town property on North Second street. The Aid society of the Baptist church was very pleasantly entertain ed by John Fields and Mrs. Gertrude Metzger at the Fields home Thursday afternoon. After devotional exercises a lierary and musical program was given. A number of the members were unable to attend on account of sick ness. Refreshments consisting of cof fee, sandwiches, cake and fruit were served. Leota Dible has been quite ill the past week. Wm. On Wednesday morning Miss Mil dred Hinton and Dwight Morrow, both of Albia, surprised their friends by slipping quietly away,and taking the train for Ottumwa where they were married.They returned in the evening and enjoyed a bounteous supper at the home of the bride's parents on North Second street. They are making their home with the groom's parents on South Clinton street. The bride, the younger daughter of A. I. Hinton, ws born and raised in Alba. She graduated from the Albia high school last May and is the first member of the Kelas of 1910 to be married. The groom
