B. .Maugbon, charged with the murder of Zach Cleghorn.Thlg cane has excited no little In-tereat throughout Gwinnett county, and during the trial hundreds of people thronged the court bouse.The state was represented by W. B. Sloan, of Qaiaesville; O. AT Nix and Solicitor General Walker. The deft nso was represented by J. A. Perry, J. L. Oakes and N. L. Hutchins, of Lnwrencevllle, and T. J. Shackelford, of this city.The arguments in the case were made by Messrs. Sloan and Walker for tlio state, and Messrs. Perry and Cakes for the defendant.Haughon was a bailiff and was, at the time of the killing, attempting to arrest Cleghorn. on the charge of tunning a blind tiger. Several shots nero fired, and Cleghorn ran bebiuJ a house, where his brother, Jake Cleg horn, was hiding. Muughon claimed that Cleghorn was killed by a shot from hlg brother's pistol.The chief legal point of the case was as to whether the bailiff bad n right to shoot, not haring the warrant actually In hts possession. though he knew another officer had It. The ruling of the court was that the bailiff had no authority lt;n arrest without having the warrant.The verdict of the Jury was that of Involuntary manslaughter In the commission of an unlawful act.Judge Brand has not yet passed sentence.G
