fjutrac Atatietire.EXPEDITION UP TUE MIN RIVER.An attempt has recently been made to penetrate into the ulterior of China, by the Mjn River, which traverses the province of Fukien, and on the banks of which the provincial capital of the same name is situated. The celebrated Mr. Gutzlaff was of the jarty ; its immediate object was to reach the hills in the province of l'okieu, in which the lea denominated iiohea is cultivated. The attempt, we are sorry to add, has proved unsuccessful; but the following account of it, which we copy from The Canton Register of the 30th June last, will not be uninteresting to our readers, as it throws some additional light on the character of the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire:—Dear Sir,—The failure of the late attempt to penetrate to the celebrated Dohea Hills, and the causes which occasioned such result, are generally known to your readers.
