A meeting of Irishmen, ami descendants of Irishmen, was held at Harmony-Hall, in New-York, on the 25th ult. and attended by a large number of very respectable gentlemen, for the purpose of promoting the settlement of Irish emigrants in the Illinois territory. A Circular, highly creditable to the occasion, was addressed to their friends in various parts of the United States, inviting their co-operation and support. The following resolutions were offered by Mr. Emmet, and unanimously adopted—1. Resolved, That it is expedient to form a so-ciety of Irishmen and descendants of Irishmen, for the purpose of endeavoring to procure from Congress, a tract of land in the Illinois territory, to be settled by emigrants from Ireland.2. Resolved, That every person of the foregoing description, who shall on or before the second day of December next pay the secretary of this meeting the sum of five dollars, shall be entitled to become a member of the said society, until the number of subscribers shall have a-fliounted to one hundred, after which time the subscribers shall be at liberty to elect thir own officers, and no person shall afterwards be admitted except by ballot,3. Resolved, That it be recommended to Irishmen and the descendants oT Irishmen, in the other cities and towns of the union, to form similar societies, for the purpose of corresponding and co-operating with that which is about to be formed in this city.*T»1. - K - - *1 n r n rniS.immr mJCf.----will shortly talce place, and in order to prevent the loss of time, a committee of fifteen be appointed to prepare the outlines of a memorial to that body, to be submitted to the consideration of the society, when formed and organized ; and also to adopt such measures as they may think expedient for promoting and accelerating the organization of that society.The following gentlemen were then appointed a committee in pursuance of the 7th resolution.COMMITTEE.Andrew Morris, John Meyher,Thomas Addis Emmet, James M‘Bride, William Sampson, Cornelius Heeney, John W.
