After 33 years as a Kenyon professor of psychology, he is moving onward to the golden fields of retirement Dr. Cummings spoke to the COLLEGIAN this past week regarding his life, his views on Kenyon, and his opinions on liberal arts education in general.Dr. Cummings is originally form western Pennsylvania, but moved to New England. He attended and graduated from Amherst. Then came a period of study at the Sorbonne in Paris where his initial interst in psychology was sparked. He received his master’s degree from Columbia, taught for a while at Dartmouth, and did further studies at Syracuse. He completed his doctorate at Pinceton. He has also taught in summer school sessions at the University of Vermont and the University of Delaware.One of the most amusing anecdotes of his 33 years at Kenyon deswhich Dr. Cummings could recall, de\concerns our illustrious alumnus maJonathan Winters. “I think one of thrthe funniest things that ever Dr.happened was at the Hundredth Anni- dueversary of the founding of the Deke mefraternity. A great number of alumni Wacame back including Jonathan theWinters who was then very very spifamous and had become quite a relnational figure. I left that party tobetween twelve and one o’ clock, we:He’d been on a couch, speaking, thatalking, giving his monologues all Keievening long and he was going great theguns by about one.
