Miliia Plainsmen Quanah Men Due Back in US. Two Quanah soldiers who have been stationed overseas with the U.S. Army will return to the States soon, according to infor mation received by their parents. They are Sgt. Bazil (Speck) Handy, son of Mrs. Gertie Handy, and Cpl. Bill Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Cooper, who has been stationed in England. Han dy’s wife and two children have been with him in Japan. * * First Lt. Sam P. Brown, son of Mrs. Addie Brown of Tex homa, has received a citation with Commendation Ribbon and Medal Pendant for meri torious service in Korea. He is assigned to Headquarters Com pany, 1st Battalion, 65th In fantry Division. * * Edgar Taylor Close, who has been serving with the U.S. Navy for the past four years, has re ceived his discharge from mili tary service. He and his mother, Mrs. C. E. Batten, formerly of Shamrock and now of Lubbock, recently visited with her mother, Mrs. Will Taylor, and her sister, Mrs. W. H. Walker, in Shamrock. + * % A former Childress resident, Ben W. Carter, has returned to the United States after an eight-month cruise in the Far East aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea. Carter, an aviation machinists mate third class, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will 8. Carter, who moved to Lakeview from Childress recently. He is the husband of Mrs. Marie Carter of North Platte, Nebr u+ * *. Recently discharged from the Air Force and enrolled at Texas Tech in Lubbock is William E. Rhoten, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Rhoten of Littlefield. He is married to the former Jeanne Crumpton of Floydada and they have one son, Bill, who is one year old.
