On 4th July, 1942, he sent a letter to Beard nt Mt. Oeorge, and no reply was received. On 7th November he received n wire from Benrd saying his address was Wingham post office. He sent Beard a form to complete nnd it wns returned on 21st November, with a letter from defendant saying be had lived at Cedar Party road until 3rd November, and was now at Comboyne road, Wingham, On 25th November he wrote to Beard, but no reply was sent.Beard said no mall was received ct Cedar Party road, and he only recaVfd letters when he went to Wingham. He received a call-up at Ward's River, but he did not receive it uatil after the date he was present himself. He was working for the Wingham Council, srd did not know ha had to notify change of address. Defendant lelt his employment, snd went to work in a sawmill. On 16th November be wrote saying he was getting timber for tho charcoal kilns of the Winghsm Council until llth November, and then went to work at Machin Bros.’ sawmill.Defendant said he did not know he was to notify his change of occupation.Captain Thompson said when men were medically examined they were told they must notify cbsnge of address and * occupation, and other alterations in mode of life.Defendant said ho had now notided I is chsng) cr occupation.Fined £1, with 8/ costs.Captain Thompson, proceeded against Lindsay tAilm Reid for failing to onrol tor military service.—Mr. 8. 0. O. Martin appeared for Reid, who pleaded not guilty.Captain Thompson said a notice was issued calling upon all males attaining the ago of 18 years after July. 1941, to enrol for military service.Mr. Martin objected that the printed notice issued by the military authorities was not legal evidence.Captain Thompson said the notiro was exhibited at all post offices. Defendant reached the age of 18 years on llth October, 1041, and in July, 1042. an inquiry was sent to Reid asking if he had registered.
