The Reform School.IodtetpolU Journal. The Board of Commissioner of the Indiana House of Jttefuge mid Reform School, ntPlninfield, met yesterday in special session, at the scliool, all the members being present. The approach-iijir dose of llie year, at which time tlicj are required to make their nutuia! report to the Governor, suggested to the bot* rd the propriety of holding the meeting a week in advance of the regular date. Another reason for their meeting at this time, and the principal one, was the demand of the superintendent, Mr,F. B. Aittfworth, for nn investigation into his management of the Institution, which was assailed in the columns of tiro Saturday Herald on the 20th of November. 'The board sent a request to the cditpr, .of tho Herald to make specific eSrges hgninst the superintendent, lo be-aeted upon at this meeting, but none were presented.Tho board during the day examined the accounts of the institution lor the past venr, (the accounts previous to the beginning oUSfto having been examined and approved by the legislative committees last winter,) and foaud them to be in all respects correct.Tho Herald charged in tho issue above named that there was a discrepancy of$11*000in the accounts of the chsir-shop nt the school for 1874. These accounts were invostigatcd closely ana found to 1)0 all right. While the receipts of the shop were $15,000, the cx-pcndituros,'of which the author of the article alluded to took no notice, amoun-led to $11,000, leaving a net profit of $4,000, the sum reported by the superintendent in his report ^tr the receipt* and expenditures for last year.Concerning the charge, that the inmates are not properly clothed or caret! for, the board say they have made particular examination and there is no lack of comfortable doth!fig. There was, however, a delay In the arrival of an invoice of winter shoes, the result of delay in transportation of a shipment made by an Kn stern wholesale establishment, to whoin the order had been given *5 a matter of economy to the State. At the time of the meeting of the board, November 5th, these shoes had not arrived, but a telegrrm brought the rerpoiise that they had Already been shipped three days. The delay of some three weeks was in no way the fault of Mr. A ins wort!). ■ •The report of inhuman treatment of inmates the commissioners prouosmce to hi utterly withom foundation. On the contrary, tho most complete system of moral disciplfne exists in every department. Bad conduct is cured, not by tbeJxb, but v detracting from the credit and standing of the guilty one, and it is seldom that this infliction does not havo a silutary effect.TheJboard have also to say that they see no reason for believing that the inmates are not adequately fed, but are satisfied that exncilythe reverse is true.
